About Lord Ganesha
Lord Ganesha is known as Aumkara, because his body mirrors the shape of the Aum; the elephant god is thus seen as the embodiment of the cosmos. His elephantine head symbolizes the intelligence and beatitude of the elephant, powerful, yet gentle. His vehicle is a mouse (mooshika), and the mouse symbolises our desires. But Lord Ganesh with his intellect can keep the mouse desires under control and we choose which desire to proceed with that which will give the world and one self the great benefit, success is ours. You will always see Mooshika looking up towards Ganeshji never acting without Lord Ganesh’s instructions. You and I too without the clear instructions of our Intellect our Mind should not act. Also Lord Ganesha (Big) keeps the company of the small mouse. It also signifies His humility, that he espouses the company of one of the smaller creatures.
Lord Ganesh is the lord of wisdom, intelligence, education, prudence, luck and fortune, gates, doors, doorways, household and writing. He is the remover of obstacles, and as such it is normal to invoke him before the undertaking of any task.
On this Auspicious week, Lord Ganesh the supreme all pervading lord takes a form of the elephant God to bless the devotees. After his appearance, devotees with a grand celebration, thank the Lord for coming and blessing us and we immerse (Visarjan) the Lord in the water and return the Lord in the elephant form to His all pervading form (this will take place on Saturday 15th September at 3pm – https://www.chinmaya.com.au/event/ganesh-chaturthi-pooja-and-visarjan)
Devotees are encouraged to get special blessings on this day by becoming a Mukhya Yajman, this entails the individual devotee or their families to participate in the Pooja for the festival. This is considered a very special act as the pooja will help the devotees in their inner purification. The donation offering will go towards helping Chinmaya Mission reaching out to more and more devotees and seekers. In turn the Mukhya Yajman gains further merits by helping support the spiritual welfare of others.
