From the 7th - 13th of December 2009, Swami Swaroopananda captivated a crowd of over 400 people in Melbourne, Australia with discourses on Kishkinda and Sundar Kand of the Tulsi Ramayan. The atmosphere of this devotional portion of the text, where Hanumanji meets Shri Ramchandraji, was heightened by the bhajans and the Ramayan arati each night. The crowds were greeted with the traditional rose water, chandan and kumkum at the foyer and special Balavihar stall and competition was set up by the volunteers. Children from the various Balavihar centres chanted the Hanuman Chalisa on stage each night.
Swamiji, himself an embodiment of service, held the audiences attention with the passionate message of Seva (service) as seen through the heroic deeds of Hanumanji. The qualities of a sevak were explained as one who possesses strength, intelligence, fortitude and faith. Just as Hanumanji’s infinite potential was awakened by Jambavaan, Swamiji explained how each person could awaken such potential in themselves. The importance of humility, which is needed to achieve real success and prevent future failure, was seen in the dialogue between Hanumanji’s and the Lord after finding Sita.
One of the highlights of the Yagna was undoubtedly the enactments of the scenes described by Swamiji each night. The Melbourne CHYKs choreographed and staged a series of spellbinding performances combining their training in bharatnatyam with modern dance to vividly re-create the scenes and characters of Ramayan. The audience was transported to the world of Kishkinda and Lanka by these powerful performances.
Each discourse concluded with 100’s participating in the final arati and the chanting of the Hanuman Chalisa. The yagna was a great success inspiring all from children, youth to adults.
