From 4-6th of December 2009, Swami Swaroopananda conducted a Chyk camp ‘Restart’ for over 70 youth from all over Australia. The atmosphere, the activities and the knowledge gained were beyond what we had anticipated as the organizing committee. Much of this was due to the participants who enthusiastically took part in all the activities, from behaving like farm animals to breaking through wood.
The atmosphere was emotionally charged from night one, with the bonfire and chanting which was spontaneously followed by dancing from the celebration of letting go of any negative reoccurring thoughts, which are holding us back. Personally a highlight for me was the activity of breaking through our barriers, by breaking wood with our own bear hands! I remember feeling a great sense of fear and doubt that I couldn’t do it, I didn’t think I was strong enough. However with encouragement and focus I broke it in one shot. I will always remember the excitement that I experienced as I overcame my fear, and the reactions of those around me who also had this amazing experience. It was definitely one of the most empowering experiences, and one that will always insure I step outside my comfort zone and step beyond my fears.
I especially enjoyed the lectures from Swamiji. The messages were delivered in a manner whereby individuals would retain the information, through stories and also mini exercises during the lectures. One of the many things I found interesting was, the effects thoughts have on our mind and ultimately our destiny.
“Whatever we think in our mind is what we will always see. So see the Greatness.”
Also the concept of thresholds where we tend to limit ourselves just below our threshold. This was demonstrated in a rather creative manner, with a bunch 70 youth standing with their arms above there heads, until they just could not bear the pain. It was a sight to see.
I feel truly blessed to have had the opportunity to be a part of such an empowering and rewarding event.
