For the past few days the Chinmaya Mission Perth society has been on a roll! With so many activities being organized and so much effort and precious time put into them that the Chinmaya mission Perth society knew that not just one but there were many exhilarating activities to look forward to. It is undeniable that Chinmaya mission has staged an absolutely outstanding and magnificent show of discourses, spiritual classes for adults, teenagers and children. Amongst all Chinmaya Mission Perth has also represented the Hindu Society of Western Australia very well.

Chinmaya Mission has been spread throughout the world by our respected Gurudev, Swami Chinmayanandaji. Perth has been one of the lucky cities to have the privilege of following Swami Chinmayananda’s mission and The Chinmaya Mission Perth Society has used its opportunities extremely well in order to host great events.

I would now like to highlight some of the events that Chinmaya mission hosts. The first one that I would like to mention is the Geeta classes series for adults, who wish to go deeper into their culture and Hindu religion. These classes are held once every fortnight on a Sunday. In the Geeta classes the adults get together in a member’s house and learn about the teachings of the Bhagavad Geeta. They not only read it, but also probe its meaning by developing their understanding of its content. Commentary is also given by Swami Chinmayananda on a DVD. Usually someone will recite a shloka and the rest of the adults recite after them. If someone doesn’t understand they will then seek help and all the adults will discuss it together in order to come up with an answer. Nearing the end of the class there will be distribution of prasad and time to meet new people .

The second initiative which assists in the evolving experience and wealth of knowledge ingrained in our scriptures is the Balavihar classes - classes for children. Balavihar is support aimed at to extending childrens’ knowledge of spirituality and the Hindu culture. It is a place of fun, learning and laughter where children get to know a bit about themselves and their sanskaar. Children have a busy life as well as adults with homework, extracurricular activities and so on. Balavihar gives them some time to devote to God and peacefulness which we all desire. “At Balavihar we start off with the opening prayer trying to focus our mind on one thing”, says the Perth Balavihar student Deveena Bahree. She continues: “After that we recite our daily shlokas one by one. Together we decide what bhajans or prayers we would like to sing. Next come breathing exercises which all children do not look forward to, but they help us a lot during our daily lives. We conclude the day with game time and the finishing prayer ending the class.”

Going back a week or so, Chinmaya Mission Perth was delighted with the news that a Jr. of Swami Swaroopnanda, Brahmachari Gautamji was planning to come to Perth to give some discourses or lectures about inspirational living. The discourses were going to run for two days, leaflets and brochures were distributed to let people know about the upcoming event. The lecture was held at Como Primary School and a lot of people attended. It was indeed a very erudite and worthwhile discourse about the way to live life and how to get through its ups and downs. On the second day even more people attended to listen to Br. Gautamji. This lecture was just as engaging as the day before and focused on how to tackle desires that are unnecessary. Brahmachari Gautamji was a hit in the Chinmaya Mission society Perth and received wonderful and warm thanks on behalf of Chinmaya Mission Perth and the audience before he left us.
